Mr. Hatch is the leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) GHRS Total Compensation Practice in the Northeast Region. Mr. Hatch as 17 years of experience in design and implementation of executive compensation and other human capital strategy solutions including: change management, total pay design, outsourcing, reengineering, employee communication, sales force effectiveness. Mr. Hatch has been accepted as an expert witness in the field of Executive Compensation on several cases.
Prior to joining PwC, he headed up the Northeast Region Human Capital Services Practice for Arthur Andersen. Before Arthur Andersen, he was the Midwest Market Leader of Ernst & Young’s Human Resource Consulting Services and Financial Institution Practice Leader in the Chicago Office of Towers Perrin. Jim was also responsible for the Contingency Compensation practice for Hay Management Consultant’s Central Region.
A sample of recent engagements that Mr. Hatch has worked on include:
Served as an expert witness for a large communications company in a bankruptcy case. Developed the sales compensation program for a large group of sales managers and field sales representatives for a major printing company with sales in excess of 500 million. Assessed the reasonableness of total executive compensation and developed/reviewed transitional compensation plans and executive contracts for a consumer products distribution company. Reviewed the thoroughness of executive compensation programs for a regional commercial bank at the request of the FDIC. Directed and conducted executive compensation engagement which included the design of a base salary, short-and long-term incentive, gain-sharing, performance appraisal, and sales compensation designs for a major manufacturer and distributor in the hardware and general merchandise industry. Designed a long-term capital accumulation program that included restricted stock, stock options, non-qualified stock options, and performance units for a major charter airline. Directed the design of a supplemental executive retirement program for an electronics manufacturing company. Directed the design and implementation of a total remuneration program, which included short- and long-term incentives, and group incentives for a large newspaper and television communication company. Designed and assisted in negotiating employment contracts and severance agreements for a major manufacturer of electronics appliances. Conducted a review of executive compensation programs for a major resort hotel company. Directed the design of a supplemental executive retirement program with executives for a regional hospital.
Mr. Hatch holds BS and MBA degrees from Northern Illinois University. He is a Certified Public Accountant, an Honors Graduate of the Bank Administration Institute Program at the University of Wisconsin and he has completed the Management Development Program at NorthWestern University’s Kellogg School. Mr. Hatch has been a lecturer at industry and professional seminars on various topics related to compensation design and has recently co-authored a book titled, “Delivering On The Promise: How to Attract, Manage and Retain Human Capital”. He is also a member of the American Compensation Association and the American Institute of CPA’s.
