Dr. Michael Amendola is a practicing vascular surgeon at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System in Richmond Virginia, where he serves as the Division Chief of Vascular Surgery, the Head of The Vascular Duplex Laboratory, and is a national VA System 3D Printing Surgical Advisor. He graduated from the College of William and Mary with a bachelor of science, where he also obtained a Masters in Chemistry. Dr. Amendola received his medical degree in 2002 from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Board certified in both vascular and general surgery, Dr. Amendola is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Vascular Surgery with over 15 years’ experience. Dr. Amendola completed his general surgery residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in 2007 and his Vascular Surgery fellowship at the same facility in 2009.
Dr. Amendola has an advanced degree in medical education (Masters Education in Health Professionals or MEHP) from The Johns Hopkins University, which he obtained in 2019. A life-long learner and educator, Dr. Amendola holds the academic rank of Professor of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University. He also has been named a national Innovation Fellow by the Veterans Health Administration for his work in pioneering 3D Printing for the nation's largest health system. His duties and experience include the education of nursing students, advance practicing nurses, medical students, general surgery residents, plastic surgery residents, podiatric residents, and vascular surgery fellows. Dr. Amendola has worked in legal field as an expert witness as well as case reviewer for both plaintiff and defense parties. He has published over twenty peer-reviewed publications since 2020. Dr. Amendola takes pride in serving the veteran population, educating the next generation of doctors and surgeons, participating in the application of innovative technologies in the clinical field of surgery as well as his academic pursuits.
