Dr. Michael Amendola is a practicing vascular surgeon at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System in Richmond Virginia. He serves as the Division Chief of Vascular Surgery and the Clinical Director of The Vascular Duplex Laboratory. He graduated from the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Science as well as a Master’s of Chemistry. In 2002, Dr. Amendola received his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Dr. Amendola completed his general surgery residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in 2007 and his Vascular Surgery fellowship at the same facility in 2009. He is board certified in vascular and general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as the Society for Vascular Surgery. He has been in active vascular surgery practice for over 16 years. In 2019, Dr. Amendola obtained an advanced degree in medical education (Masters Education in Health Professionals) from The Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Amendola holds the academic rank of Professor of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. His duties include the education of nursing students, advance practicing nurses, medical students, general surgery residents, plastic surgery residents, vascular surgery residents, podiatric residents, and vascular surgery fellows. Dr. Amendola has worked in legal field as an expert witness for the last five years as case reviewer for both plaintiff and defense parties. He has published over twenty-five peer-reviewed publications since 2020 and has been selected for the American College of Surgeons Master Educators. Dr. Amendola takes pride in serving the veteran population, educating the next generation of doctors and surgeons, participating in the application of innovative technologies in the clinical field of surgery as well as his academic pursuits.
