Dr. Finkel is an expert who works nationally specializing in aging and mental health (geriatric psychiatry). His expertise includes contested wills, nursing home litigation, personal injury, malpractice and competency.

He is the founder of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) and co-founder of the International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA) and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Council on Aging. He has received awards for excellence from all three of these organizations.

Dr. Finkel is currently Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Chicago. Formerly he was Professor of Psychiatry at Northwestern University where he was the Director of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry and was awarded Secondary Professorial appointments in Internal Medicine and Neurology. In clinical practice for 40+ years, he has also received more than 9 million dollars in research and educational grants and awards in the field. He has published over 100 papers and chapters and delivered more than 1000 lectures, nationally and internationally, on mental health and aging.
