Her cases have involved school liability, duty of care, grading pand other policies, discipline, sexual abuse by staff or peers, attendance, injury, student death, racial and disability discrimination, teacher evaluation, labor relations, whistleblowing, compliance, school culture, adequacy of training and supervision, hiring/firing/discipline of school personnel, education policy, adequacy of services for students, criminal charges against school staff, and in domestic cases, comparing or recommending best school options for minor children.

Rhodes' research and writings include a focus on school culture, STEM, achievement, social-emotional learning, and other topics such as the detrimental effects of high student mobility and poverty-related trauma effects on student achievement.
