Member Bio
Alfonso Monroy is the Chief Legal Officer and General counsel for bitso. He oversees the legal, compliance, risk, and regulatory matters at bitso. Bitso is a global Fintech platform, powered by crypto with financial regulated license in Gibraltar and with local on/off ramps and financial regulated licenses in Mexico, Argentina, brazil and colombia.
Prior to joining bitso, Alfonso worked for 13 years at the law firm santamarina y steta in Mexico and Paul hastings in the new york office, where he specialized in the following areas of practice: (i) banking and finance; (ii) capital markets; (iii) mergers and acquisitions; (iv) corporate; and (v) project and infrastructure financing.
Alfonso studied his law degree (J.d. equivalent) at La salle university and graduated with the thesis work entitled “stock Market Promotion company, its operation and operation in the stock Market. he holds a master’s degree in Law (LL.M.) and a certificate in business from northwestern school of Law and northwestern university – kellogg school of Management, respectively.
he has published certain articles related to corporate Governance, sofipos and FinTech and has participated in teaching courses at the condusef and recently participated in the book entitled GPs FinTech Professional Guide with the chapter Virtual Assets. Alfonso is also a Professor at the universidad Ana huac and itam teaching the subject of Financial Law and in different universities of Latin America.
