General Motors Corp. announced June 8 the appointment of a new vice president and general counsel. The automotive giant tapped Robert Osborne, currently a partner at Jenner & Block in Chicago and chair of the firm's corporate practice, to fill the position. Osborne replaces Tom Gottschalk, who will continue to serve as the company's executive vice president, law and public policy.

Osborne has had previous experience with GM, representing the company as outside counsel for more than 20 years. In the past, he represented GM in the sale of Hughes Electronics, the spin-offs of Electronic Data Systems, Hughes Defense and Delphi, the sale of National Car Rental and in public offerings and debt securities.

Osborne will begin his new post Sept. 1.
