Google's GC Gets Promoted
Google Inc. hired John Kent Walker Jr. to be vice president and general counsel. Walker joins Google from eBay where he served as deputy general counsel. Walker succeeds David Drummond, who has been named as Google's CLO. Drummond retains his previous title, senior vice president of corporate development.
R.J. Reynolds Appoints New GC
R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. appointed Martin L. (“Mark”) Holton III general counsel. Holton joined R.J. Reynolds as vice president and assistant general counsel of litigation in 2002.
Rambus Hires New General Counsel
Los Altos, Calif.-based Rambus Inc. hired Thomas R. Lavelle as senior vice president and general counsel. Lavelle most recently served as vice president and general counsel at San Jose, Calif.-based Xilinx Inc., a supplier of programmable chips.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
