Deutsche Bank GC Named SEC Enforcement Chief
Robert Khuzami has been appointed the director of enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Robert Khuzami, general counsel of the Americas for Deutsche Bank AG, has been appointed the director of enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Khuzami has worked at Deutsche Bank since 2004. Before that, he was a federal prosecutor for 11 years in the Southern District of New York.
“I'm pleased to have Rob join the SEC in such an important role at this crucial time,” SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro said in a release Thursday. “Throughout his career, Rob has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to prosecuting wrongdoers and protecting citizens.”
As a prosecutor, Khuzami tried the “Blind Sheik” Omar Ahmed Ali Abdel Rahman in what was then the largest terrorism trial in U.S. history. After a 10-month trial, the court convicted 10 defendants of operating an international terrorist organization responsible for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, the assassination of the founder of the Jewish Defense League and planning attacks on New York landmarks such as FBI headquarters and the United Nations.
Khuzami replaces former enforcement head Linda Chatman Thomsen, who is returning to private practice. Currently the SEC's enforcement activity includes cases against Bernard Madoff for his alleged $50 billion Ponzi scheme and, it was announced this week, Texas billionaire R. Allen Stanford for an alleged $9.2 billion fraud.
