Accenture will pay $63.7M to settle whistleblower suit
Accenture Plc has reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to settle a whistleblower lawsuit for $63.7 million. The settlement will be paid in a single lump sum.

Accenture Plc has reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to settle a whistleblower lawsuit for $63.7 million. The settlement will be paid in a single lump sum.
The lawsuit, filed under the whistleblower provisions of the False Claims Act, accused the consulting firm of bid rigging, accepting bribes and inflating prices of government contracts.
Accenture was hired by the federal government to advise agencies on software products, and was accused of receiving kickbacks in exchange for recommending certain companies.
The government alleged that wrongdoing occurred from 1996 to 2007, and included business dealings with IBM Corp., EMC Corp. and Sun Microsystems Inc. (later taken over by Oracle).
Accenture denied recommending companies in exchange for improper rebates and payments, and claimed it agreed to the settlement in an effort to prevent any further litigation.
Other companies, such as Oracle, Hewlitt-Packard and Cisco Systems Inc., have been involved in a series of similar settlement agreements.
