Texas has filed suit against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over new rules that would limit air pollution.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott filed a petition Wednesday asking the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., to review the new regulations. Abbott's office also asked that the court bar the enforcement of the rules.

Abbott said in an email statement that he “is deeply concerned about these new federal regulations' impact on the State of Texas, its electric grid and the Texans whose access to something as basic as electricity is threatened.”

The EPA issued the new rules in July, mandating 27 states—including Texas—to reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides from power plants. The U.S. Energy Information Administration says Texas uses more electricity and coal than any other state.
