Perhaps he'd had too many Timbits in the past few years. The Wendy's Co. announced this morning that it appointed veteran fast-food company executive R. Scott Toop as its new senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Beginning today, Toop will report to President and CEO Emil Brolick.

The burger chain successfully hired Toop away from Tim Hortons Inc., where he served as executive vice president and general counsel since 2009. During his tenure at the iconic Canadian coffee and donut franchise, Toop led the development of corporate and international strategic plans and revamped the legal department to more effectively support the company's various business units.

Prior to Tim Hortons, Toop spent 12 years with Yum! Brands Inc. and Tricon Global Restaurants Inc., where he was vice president and associate general counsel from 2005 to 2009. Toop also spend some time among chickens, as he served as vice president and general counsel from 1997 to 2005 at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

“I have known Scott for many years and I highly respect his legal expertise, business acumen and passion for excellence,” Brolick said in a release. “He is a 'Five-Star' performer. Scott's extensive global restaurant experience will be invaluable to our leadership team, Board of Directors and entire organization as we work to grow the Wendy's brand.”

Toop replaces Nils Okeson, who jumped from burgers to roast beef by returning to Arby's, which Wendy's still partially owns.
