The National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Bar Association has recognized DIRECTV Vice President and Deputy General Counsel Christopher Murphy with the Out & Proud Corporate Counsel Award. The award is designed to honor in-house counsel who have shown a commitment to supporting and promoting equality in the legal environment.

“Christopher Murphy has done an exemplary job of fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for LGBT employees at DIRECTV,” said D'Arcy Kemnitz, executive director of the National LGBT Bar. “His work should encourage employees to advocate for diversity throughout the country.”

Murphy, head of DIRECTV's commercial and consumer litigation group, created a program at the company called OUTLOOK, which is a resource group for LGBT employees that offers professional development events. Murphy also is on the board of Public Counsel Law Center, the largest pro bono law office in the country.

The National LGBT Bar will present Murphy with the Out & Proud Award at a reception in Los Angeles this week.
