Last year, experts noted a remarkable trend: More law firms are pursuing cross-border mergers to create megafirms comprising thousands of lawyers.

One such cross-border mega-deal that made headlines toward the end of 2012 was SNR Denton's three-way merger with European firm Salans and Canada's Fraser Milner Casgrain. The deal among the firms was completed last month, and the combined firm is now open for business as Dentons.

According to the Wall Street Journal's Law Blog, the 2,500-lawyer megafirm is already seeing success and even considering additional growth. That could be thanks to the fact that the firms collaborated on a pre-merger advertising and marketing campaign to inform current and potential clients about the deal. Dentons' global chair Joe Andrew told the Law Blog that the megafirm hasn't lost any big clients since the merger's completion. And the three firms' individual 2012 financial results have been a boon to the new megafirm.
