Boston carpenter Richard Houpert is suing Adam Sandler's movie production company over injuries he sustained while working on the set of Sandler's film “That's My Boy.”
Houpert filed his complaint in a district court on Tuesday, claiming that while he was using a saw to build the movie set, his hand was “drawn into the saw” and suffered fractures, Boston Magazine reports. He also had to get multiple fingers amputated. In addition to suing Sandler's production company, Happy Madison Inc., Houpert has named Happy Madison affiliate Sony and Columbia Pictures, as well as tool company Black and Decker, the maker of the saw, as defendants.
He claims that Black and Decker “failed [to incorporate] available safety devices in the design” of the saw, which he describes as “faulty” and “dangerous. In addition, he accuses Happy Madison of failing “to provide reliable, safe equipment” or “a safe working environment.”
