Lon Jacobs

GC Appointments

Time Inc. Associate General Counsel Helen Wan has been touring the country (and speaking to InsideCounsel) about her novel The Partner Track, but her department recently announced that she will return to work with a new person in charge. Lawrence (Lon) Jacobs has been named Time's executive vice president and general counsel, bringing his years of legal experience in media to the company. Jacobs previously spent over a decade with News Corp., including six years as senior executive vice president and group general counsel.

Sharon Ferko

Novitex Enterprise Solutions provides document and communications management solutions, but in Sharon Ferko, the company believes it has found a solution for its own legal troubles. Ferko joins Novitex as the company's general counsel, having previously worked for the law firms Epstein Becker & Green and Morgan Lewis & Bockius. “She has an impressive history of achievement and has counseled a variety of companies with respect to their commercial, compliance, financial and strategic activities,” Novitex CEO John Visentin said in a statement. “Sharon will be a great leader and asset to our growing company.”

Stephen Godsell

Digital content is the way of the future in the press industry, but with digital content comes a whole host of online legal troubles. For the PA Group, the parent company of the Press Association (PA) and MeteoGroup, the job of sorting through those legal troubles now falls to recently named Group General Counsel and Company Secretary Stephen Godsell. Godsell comes to the PA Group from The Economist Group, where he served as senior legal counsel. “I'm delighted to be joining PA Group,” Godsell said in a statement. “This is a particularly exciting time for the company as it continues to increase its market share through organic growth and strategic acquisitions.”

Suzanne Loov

Perhaps American readers of InsideCounsel aren't as familiar with our neighbors to the north, but Calgary, Alberta-based Connacher Oil and Gas helps control the Great Divide oil sands. The job of controlling the company's legal department is now in the hands of Suzanne Loov, who joined Connacher in September. Loov previously worked as corporate secretary for NXT Energy Solutions. In a release, Connacher said, “Suzanne brings a broad range of experience to Connacher in regulatory compliance, corporate finance, and corporate commercial matters.”

David Huberman

Cloud solutions are at the heart of many modern concerns for businesses and law-firms, especially as more and more companies turn to the cloud for internal needs. But at Rally Software, cloud computing is their job. And leading the cloud company's legal team now falls on David Huberman, who was named the company's general counsel in late October. Huberman most recently served as GC of cloud-based Internet security company Webroot. “David has a unique background that combines deep expertise leading legal teams for globally distributed technology companies with a strong entrepreneurial spirit for making decisions that maximize value and create long-term opportunities,” said Tim Miller, CEO of Rally, in a press release.

Jeffrey Hadden

Financial firms across the globe have taken some legal hits recently (sorry big banks and ICAP), which only underscores the importance of a strong legal department when dealing with government regulations. Private equity firm TA Associates believes they have the man to lead the charge, hiring Jeffrey C. Hadden on Nov. 4. Hadden joins TA from Goodwin Proctor LLP, where he has served as TA's outside general counsel since 1987. “Jeff has been a trusted advisor to TA Associates for more than 25 years, and we are very pleased he has chosen to continue this longstanding relationship as a key member of our firm,” TA Associates Chairman Richard D. Tadler said in a press release.
