It fits perfectly like a favorite shirt: Former Freddie Mac GC Robert E. Bostrom has joined retailer Abercrombie & Fitch Co. as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, beginning in January 2014. Bostrom comes to Abercrombie from the law firm Greenberg Traurig, where he co-chaired the company's Financial Regulatory and Compliance Practice. Along with his role with Freddie Mac during the financial crisis, Bostrom has also served as GC of National Westminster Bancorp. “Bob has led and helped build some of the best legal departments in the country and has advised leading companies on an expansive range of issues,” Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries said in a statement.
Real estate investment trust Liberty Property Trust owns over 65,000,000 square feet of office and industrial space throughout the U.S. and U.K., which means that a real estate expert is needed to keep the company's substantial legal dealings in line. Enter Herman C. Fala, who will take over Liberty's GC position beginning on January 1. Fala comes to Liberty from Cozen O'Connor, where he most recently chaired the firm's Real Estate Practice Group. According to Liberty CEO Bill Hankowsky, Fala has also worked with Liberty in the past on multiple deals as outside counsel.
The automotive industry is undergoing a transformation, but it's not just the big manufacturers who need their legal teams to be on their toes. Michigan-based automotive supplier Cooper-Standard Holdings Inc. searched for an industry veteran to lead its in-house legal team as well, and the company believes it has found the right person for the job in Aleksandra A. Miziolek. Miziolek previously served as the director of Dykema Gossett's Automotive Industry Group. “Aleks' broad and extensive legal experience in the automotive arena makes her an excellent addition to Cooper Standard's leadership team and head of our legal group,” said Cooper-Standard CEO Jeffrey S. Edwards in a press release.
You might know A&E Networks for “Duck Dynasty,” “Storage Wars” or “Hoarders,” but entertainment legal insiders now know the company for making big name hires. Former Motion Picture Association of America GC Henry Hoberman has joined A&E as general counsel, succeeding Douglas Jacobs. Hoberman served as the MPAA's GC since 2011 and has also served as GC of RHI Entertainment. Hoberman has previously served in-house positions with ABC and the Walt Disney Co. as well. Stephen Fabrizio has inherited the MPAA GC position.
Get in the Zone, Kristen Collier Wright, because you're the new senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, customer satisfaction of AutoZone. Wright will be promoted to the position from her previous job title of assistant general counsel effective January 5. Prior to joining AutoZone in 2012, Wright was a partner with Bass, Berry & Sims in Memphis, Tenn. “With this promotion, we continue to strengthen our senior leadership team with seasoned and accomplished AutoZoners,” said AutoZone CEO Bill Rhodes in a release. “Kristen has strong leadership skills and her experiences will serve this company at a very high level for many years to come.”
I would think that entertainment company TVGN, parent of the TV Guide Network, would be an expert at choosing a new GC due to its familiarity with lists and the need to make choices. But no matter the method, TVGN has appointed David Mandell executive vice president and general counsel effective immediately. Mandell comes to TVGN from Mandalay Digital Group, where he served as EVP, general counsel and corporate secretary. Mandell has also held top legal leadership positions at Gemstar-TV Guide and Playboy Entertainment Group.

Consumer electronics company Roku has become a leader in streaming entertainment devices for the TV, but given the copious IP fights in the tech space recently, a strong legal team leader is needed to push the company going forward. Stephen Kay has been hired as the man for the job and will join Roku as senior vice president and general counsel in 2014. Kay is currently a managing partner in the Los Angeles office of Hogan Lovells, where he is a co-leader of the firm's global Technology, Media and Telecoms team. Kay has also served as a former GC of Gemstar-TV Guide.
Technology company Scientific Games knows how to play the odds — it does develop products and services for gaming and lottery markets, after all. But there was no guesswork in naming Andrew Tomback as the company's newest senior vice president and general counsel at the beginning of December. Tomback comes to the company from private practice, where he worked most recently as a partner with Zuckerman, Spaeder and was previously a partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy. Tomback last worked in-house with Resolution Trust Corporation as deputy general counsel.
