Office Depot Inc. has named David Bleisch as executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary.
Bleisch will be in charge of the strategic direction of the legal organization and operations and manage regulatory and compliance matters for the Boca Raton, Florida-based office supply chain, according to a company announcement released earlier this week.
He will report to Office Depot CEO Gerry Smith.
“What I found most compelling about Office Depot is the energy and excitement around the company's vision for innovation and continuous improvement,” Bleisch said in a statement. “I'm eager and excited to join the company at such a critical phase in its growth and development.”
Bleisch is filling the role vacated by Steve Calkins, who was promoted to president of the business solutions division in May.
“David has been a trusted legal adviser for many years and has provided strategic legal solutions to key business issues within the organizations he's worked for with an outstanding track record,” Smith said in a statement.
Office Depot did not respond to request for further comment.
Previously Bleisch was senior vice president and chief legal officer for the ADT Corp.. According to his LinkedIn profile, he was in charge of legal, environmental, health and safety, government affairs and corporate governance matters. He managed a team of 40 with a $25 million budget.
Bleisch's profile adds that he established a code of conduct, ethics line, compliance training, enterprise risk management and shareholder communications programs.
Bleisch was the lead ADT lawyer when the company was acquired in a $12.4 billion deal by Apollo Global Management.
He also worked for Tyco International, where he rose to become vice president and general counsel of Tyco Security Solutions, which included ADT Worldwide, Tyco Security Products and Tyco Retail Solutions.
Bleisch joined Tyco International in 2005 and held several leadership positions there. Before joining the company he was senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at the LTV Corp., a steel producer based in Ohio. He also worked as a partner in law firm of Jackson Walker in Houston, where he worked as a corporate transactional attorney.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and a J.D. from Boston College Law School. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas.
