Elizabeth Wall, one of the UK's most prominent in-house lawyers, has left Cable & Wireless (C&W) following a reorganisation of the company's legal department.

Wall had been group director of legal and regulatory affairs at C&W, where she has headed a 70-lawyer strong team, since 1990. She was also a leading member of the Law Society's commerce and industry group committee.

Wall, whose destination is unknown, was unavailable for comment at press time.
A spokesman for C&W said: "As a result of a reorganisation, the position Elizabeth occupied has ceased to exist."

He added that Wall had left the company to pursue other interests. Dan Fitz, Wall's number two, has already been appointed to the new position of corporate general counsel.

The reorganisation took effect on 1 March.
C&W appointed Graham Wallace, chief executive of C&W Communications, as its new chief executive on 23 February, following a two-month period without a chief executive.

When Wallace took over, Wall relinquished her non-executive directorship of C&W Communications in his favour to allow him to stay on the board.

A Legal Week source attributed her departure to a new broom arriving at the company.
He added: "They really had no proper legal department before she arrived.

She's done a good job at building the department and making the company aware of the impact of the law on what it is doing.

Dan Fitz is a good guy; he is young and energetic."
