The legal community was told by the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Legal Education and Conduct (Aclec), in the first report on legal education and training some three years ago, that common legal education and training was essential in order to meet the changing needs for legal services.

Although lip service has been paid to this need by the professional bodies and there have been some very interesting developments among those providing both the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) and the Legal Practice Course (LPC), little has been done to meet the rapid changes in the market for legal services.
