DLA has appointed Andrew Lui as a partner in its Hong Kong office as the firm continues to focus on Asia.

Corporate finance specialist Lui joined DLA in July from Denton Wilde Sapte, where he had been for four years, leaving the firm as a senior associate.

Lui specialises in M&A, joint ventures and local regulatory matters, such as rules governing the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, where he has also worked, and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

His arrival boosted the Hong Kong office to 22 solicitors, including nine partners.

In May the firm brought in Paul Freeman from aviation firm Beaumont and Son to develop a network of aviation lawyers across Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai.

The office now has capability in a range of practice areas including IT and telecommunications, litigation, corporate and commercial, marine and employment.

Last October it opened an office in Singapore at the same time as forming an association with local firm J Koh & Co. The office was expanded with the appointment of former Clyde & Co litigation partner Peter Shelford in April.

Marine and commercial litigation partner Mike Melwood-Smith also joined the Singapore office in April when he relocated from the Hong Kong office.
