The Bar Council and the Law Society have joined forces to push for higher educational standards in undergraduate law degrees amid concerns that standards are falling.

The two bodies have produced a joint set of standards for providers of undergraduate law degrees in response to fears that an upturn in student numbers has led to a drop in teaching standards.

The paper will be discussed at a meeting in February between the Bar Council, the Law Society and representatives of the three main training bodies – the Society of Public Teachers of Law (SPTL), the Association of Law Teachers and the Committee of Heads of University Law Schools.
