DLA's Glasgow office has picked up Selfridges as a new client after advising the department store on the setting up of its flagship Scottish office in the Trangate area of the city.

The firm has acted on the purchase of the site, a 200,000 sq ft plot, from vendors Pathfinder.
The site itself was bought for £15.3m and has a development value of more than £90m. The decision by the London-based department store to set up a site there, rivalling Harvey Nichols' Edinburgh shop, is expected to be the beginning of the complete redevelopment of the Trangate area.

"That area of Glasgow is ripe for regeneration and this will be the catalyst that starts it," said property partner Anne McGregor who led on the deal.
The transaction was completed last Friday (4 October).

DLA's English offices have acted for Selfridges in the past, but this is the first time the firm has acted for the client north of the border.
Under the firm's so-called 'Golden Thistle' initiative, DLA is trying to encourage its existing English clients to use the Scottish office rather than their usual Scottish advisers.

DLA launched its Scottish office when it merged with Glasgow-based Bird Semple in 1999.
Last year the Scottish office dealt with 125 new clients sent up from England, accounting for an extra £2m worth of fee income, and so far this year, 39 new English clients have opted to use DLA in Scotland.

Clients won include Tesco, Pubmaster, Centrica, Paramount Hotels and Granada.
Leeds-based planning partner Kate Hall dealt with the planning aspects of the deal. The vendors were advised by property partner Hugh Bruce-Watt from the Glasgow office of national firm Masons.
