Shearman & Sterling and Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy are to see partner departures from their London offices.

Shearman is set to lose projects partner Stephan Peppiatt, while Milbank corporate partner Crayton Bell has returned to the firm's New York office.

Peppiatt is due to leave Shearman in September after 10 years with the firm. It is unclear what his next move will be, although he is expected to remain in the legal profession.

His departure follows that of high-profile corporate partner Jonathan Coppin, who left this month to launch a corporate practice at Hogan & Hartson.

Kenneth MacRitchie, Shearman's London managing partner, commented: "Stephan gave everyone plenty of notice, so we have been able to manage the transition in a civilised fashion."

The firm is moving Tokyo projects partner David Platt to London in late August or early September so the firm's London projects practice will remain stable with four partners.

At Milbank, Bell has returned to New York after coming to the end of his three-year rotation in London.

The departures come after LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & Mac-Rae's London office lost tax counsel Andrew Terry to Withers where he joins as a partner.
