The Judicial Appointments Commission ( JAC ) has unveiled its new-look selection regime for England and Wales as part of a drive to recruit 25 new High Court judges.

The 14-member independent body, which earlier this year took over responsibility for appointing judges from the Department for Constitutional Affairs, will this week publish a series of advertisements in the media to drum up interest.

Under the new system, all candidates will apply in writing, although the 20-page application form has been cut back to nine pages in a bid to stimulate interest.
