Jones Day has hired Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer partner Linda Hesse to head its securities and capital markets practice in Paris.

Hesse, who is US and French-qualified, joins Jones Day as a partner after two years at Freshfields, before which she was at Shearman & Sterling for 10 years. She joins a three-lawyer team, consisting of European counsel Frank Martin Laprade and two associates.

Notable clients Hesse has advised include France Telecom, Groupe Danone and Orange on equity capital markets work. She has also advised investment banks such as BNP Paribas, Calyon, Morgan Stanley and Societe Generale.

Recently she advised France Telecom on its €3bn (£2bn) capital increase to fund its acquisition of Spanish mobile telephone operator Amena. She also advised on the €102.1m (£68.7m) IPO of French technology company Parrot.

Hesse chairs the Sub-Committee for Regulatory Affairs, which is part of the Securities Law Committee.

Jones Day now has 19 partners in Paris.

Meanwhile, Jones Day Chicago corporate and securities partner John Perugini has moved across to London. His arrival brings the London capital markets team to 12, including three partners.
