Manufacturing and engineering giant Tyco has signed an agreement to make Eversheds its exclusive legal provider – a deal that will gift the firm £8m over two years.

The US-based company has cut its former roster of 240 firms down to just one and will now use Eversheds for legal advice across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Tyco will, however, be able to use other advisers for specific pieces of work.

Tyco's EMEA general counsel, Trevor Faure, has been working on restructuring the company's legal function since he joined in 2004 from Dell. The move comes as part of a wider restructuring by the company.

He commented: "Our convergence is a wholly original new concept."

Eversheds' relationship partner for Tyco, Paul Smith, who is also the firm's relationship partner for DuPont, said that Eversheds would have the opportunity to take on even more work.
