Birmingham giant Wragge & Co has advised on corporate deals for two new mid-market clients.

The firm has been appointed as primary counsel to Specialist Computer Holdings (SCH), the largest privately-owned technology group in Europe, after winning out in a competitive tender at the end of 2006.

The 110-partner firm has already completed its first instruction for SCH after advising the company on a £102m (E150m) securitisation financing.

Wragges replaces national rival Eversheds in the role, which is expected to generate work including contracts, IT, outsourcing, M&A and banking.

Managing partner Ian Metcalfe led a team for Wragges that also included IT partner Sally Mewies, corporate partner Baljit Chohan, litigation partner Sian Llewellyn and employment associate Richard Jones.

Metcalfe commented: "We are very pleased to be working with SCH. It is an organisation we admire and can identify with – an ambitious national and international business with strong Birmingham roots.

Wragges has scooped Floors-2-Go as a new client advising the Alternative Investment Market-listed retailer on its £52m sale to 2FG, an acquisition vehicle backed by private equity house Alchemy.

Corporate partner Jeremy Millington led the team for Floors-2-Go, which is the UK's largest retailer of specialist flooring products, with more than 130 stores nationwide.

Macfarlanes acted for Alchemy while DLA Piper represented the management on the deal, which is set to close this month.
