Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has boosted its City arbitration practice with the hire of a partner from US rival White & Case.

Cyrus Benson, who co-headed the London international arbitration team at White & Case, joins Gibson Dunn as a partner in its City dispute resolution department.

Benson is a US-qualified lawyer with experience in arbitration and litigation, specialising in the telecoms, oil and gas and financial services sectors. Clients represented by Benson include Banco Santander, Equitable Life Assurance Society and, in a shareholder class action, Sea Containers.

Benson is the latest in a series of senior hires in London made by Gibson Dunn in recent months. Corporate partner Selina Sagayam joined the firm earlier this month from Simmons & Simmons, while employment partner James Cox moved to Gibson Dunn from City giant Ashurst in September 2006.

The news comes after White & Case yesterday (29 January) confirmed it had taken on international arbitration specialist and ex-Morrison & Foerster lawyer Kathleen Paisley as a partner in its City arbitration group.

Commenting on the appointment of Benson, Gibson Dunn London dispute resolution head Philip Rocher said: "At a time when companies and governments are increasingly turning to arbitration as a means to dispute resolution, Cy's arrival allows us to offer dedicated arbitration expertise to our clients located around the world."
