Name partner Pedro Cardigos is to leave Portuguese firm Abreu Cardigos by the end of February, prompting a re-brand of the practice.
The firm relaunched itself as Abreu Advogados from 7 February and will have around 70 lawyers – including 16 partners – across offices in Lisbon and Porto.
It is understood that Cardigos – a banking specialist whose former firms include Baker & McKenzie – has been in talks with Azevedo Neves Benjamim Mendes & Associados about joining the mid-sized Lisbon firm.
Intellectual property partner Cesar Monteiro is also set to leave Abreu by the end of the month, although his destination is currently unclear.
Abreu managing partner Carmo Sousa Machado said: "This is a re-branding process. [Cardigos and Monteiro] are planning to leave although not at least until the end of February."
The move comes at a time when a number of major practices in the Portuguese legal market find themselves wrestling with issues over succession.
