Tyco International has announced that general counsel William Lytton is to retire and will be replaced by in the role by former Tyco company secretary Judith Reinsdorf.
Reinsdorf, who returns to the company after two years as general counsel at computer science company CS Bard, will report to chief executive Ed Breen and takes up her new post on 12 March.
Lytton, who is a former general counsel at General Electric Aerospace, joined Tyco in 2002 from International Paper. He will continue to serve as an advisor to Breen until July.
Tyco, which has a global legal department of around 200 lawyers and annual revenues of $41bn (£21bn), is currently in the process of splitting into three publicly-traded companies: Tyco Healthcare; Tyco Electronics; and Tyco Fire & Security and Engineered Products & Services.
Trevor Faure, Tyco general counsel for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, recently completed a review of the group's European legal advisers that saw Eversheds named as its sole panel adviser for the region.
Breen said in a statement: "Judith comes to us with a broad range of experience, including a previous tenure here at Tyco. She will be able to hit the ground running when we take the company forward as an independent company comprised of Tyco Fire& Security and Tyco Engineered Products & Services."
