Linklaters' Central and Eastern European (CEE) arm has been hit by the departure of part of its property practice, with around half the team leaving to set up a standalone firm.

The seven-lawyer Prague team, led by senior real estate associate Bryan Wilson, has set up a standalone real estate practice which Legal Week understands will practise under the banner Wilson & Partners.

Five property lawyers – Wilson, Allan Spanvirt, Martin Bendik, Karel Doktor and trainee Richard Horejsi – left last month and will be joined by corporate associates Daniel Cekal and Jan Krakora in April.

While at Linklaters, Wilson advised high-profile client Tesco on corporate and property issues in the Czech Republic and Hungary, including the company's acquisition of 27 stores from German supermarket group EDEKA.

The move leaves the magic circle giant with a Prague property team of around half a dozen lawyers, headed up by partner Klara Stepankova. A Linklaters spokesman said the firm was planning to expand the team.

Linklaters has around 50 lawyers in Prague, part of its six-office CEE network which houses 270 lawyers, with the firm also based in Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia and Slovakia.

The CEE real estate market has been buoyant in recent years and law firms have cashed in.

Notably, Linklaters' magic circle rival Clifford Chance stepped up its capabilities in the region last March by recruiting a highly-rated real estate team, led by partner Pawel Debowski, from CMS Cameron McKenna's Warsaw office.
