Leading Italian independent Gianni Origoni Grippo & Partners has launched a combined China and India group, as the firm looks set to develop its Asian presence.

The firm yesterday (1 March) announced the formation of the new 'Chindia' group, which will be based in Rome and headed by senior associate Francesca Cesca. Cesca, who joined the firm in January, spent several years in China with magic circle giant Clifford Chance.

M&A partner Giovanni Nardulli, who is currently in charge of developing the firm's practice in Far Eastern markets, will also play a key role in the new team.

Commenting on the new team, Nardulli said: "We are very interested in China and India. These markets represent a great opportunity for a law firm with international experience and skills such as ours."

He added: "Particularly in India, the activity [will focus] on strengthening the contact network selected and built by our firm throughout the years."
