Insurance giant Amlin has appointed former Lord Bissell & Brook partner Robert Robinson as its new general counsel.

Insurance specialist Robinson joins the FTSE 250 company after two years as syndicate counsel at underwriting group Liberty Syndicate Management. He will take up the role in May.

He replaces former general counsel and aviation lawyer James Healy-Pratt, who left the company last year to join niche litigation firm Stewarts. Group legal adviser Neil Adams had stepped into the position in the interim.

Healy-Pratt was responsible for setting up the insurance company's first formal panel of advisers for non-insurance issues in 2004, with Linklaters, Norton Rose, Ince & Co, Fox Williams, DMH Stallard, Stevens Drake and Wollastons handed places on the roster.

Amlin specialises in aviation, marine, UK commercial and international property casualty insurance and reinsurance and has annual premium income of £1bn.
