Emap is on the hunt for a new general counsel after current legal chief Nick Folland announced he is to leave the media giant to join DIY retail group Kingfisher.

Folland, who has also worked in-house at Cable & Wireless, left Emap last week (5 April) after almost six years with the company.

He joined Emap from Granada Media group in 2001 as its first general counsel. He will join Kingfisher at the beginning of May as company secretary and director of governance and corporate services, reporting to chief executive Gerry Murphy.

Folland will continue to sit on the board of in-house representative group the GC100 after starting in his new role.

Speaking to Legal Week, Folland said: "Although both Emap and Kingfisher have similar sized legal teams, this job has a wider remit at a bigger company."

Kingfisher employs around 75,000 people globally and annual revenues of £8bn.
