Chadbourne & Parke is set to re-establish an office in Dubai after a 14-year absence from the emirate, the New York firm announced today (17 April).

The new office opens for business on 1 May and will be staffed by nine lawyers, with former Chadbourne partner Jack Greenwald returning to head up the practice. Greenwald had quit Chadbourne in 1989 to form his own business, Greenwald Legal Consultancy.

The new base, which will feature a local law capability and is to focus on energy, project finance and M&A work, will be Chadbourne's sole current base in the Middle East.

The firm joins a growing list of international advisers to target the jurisdiction. City giant Lovells announced in February that it was to launch in Dubai after poaching Denton Wilde Sapte global Islamic finance head Rahail Ali and two associates, who both joined the firm as partners.

Commenting on the new office, Chadbourne managing partner Charles O'Neill said: "Given the strength of our energy/project finance and cross-border acquisition practices, we decided the time has come to commit substantial resources to a more visible presence in the region."
