Nottingham at Kaplan Law School has appointed a new chief executive after hiring a professor from rival legal education provider the College of Law.

Giles Proctor is due to join Nottingham at Kaplan on 11 June to head up the new London school, which opens in September.

At the College of Law, Proctor is associate professor responsible for developing the College's corporate courses for both pre and post-qualification training. Before joining the College of Law he was head of quality assurance and business development at Nottingham Law School.

Nottingham at Kaplan, formed last summer through a joint venture between Nottingham Law School and US education provider Kaplan, will offer both the Legal Practice Course and the Graduate Diploma in Law.

US giant Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw is the only firm to have signed an exclusive deal for all of its trainees to attend the school.

Commenting on the appointment of Proctor, former Lovells partner Keith Gaines, who takes over as dean of Nottingham Law School next month, said: "I am delighted to welcome Giles as our new head of school for Nottingham at Kaplan Law School. His expertise in legal training and education, both academic and commercial, plus his deep knowledge of the Nottingham Law School approach gained during his previous tenure here, will be instrumental in making our London venture a success."
