Bird & Bird has boosted its Stockholm arm with the hire of Linklaters' former local head of litigation, Henrik Bielenstein.

Bielenstein joins Bird & Bird as a partner on 1 May, having announced his retirement from Linklaters' partnership in June 2006.

Bielenstein specialises in arbitration and litigation in contractual and professional liability as well as insurance law. He was head of Linklaters' Swedish litigation group for five years, having joined the magic circle firm in 2001 through its merger with local alliance partner Lagerlof & Leman.

The appointment continues a period of investment for Bird & Bird in its Swedish practice, with the top 30 UK firm also hiring IT partner Stefan Bernhard and tax partner Christian Luthman within the last 18 months.

Meanwhile, other partners to have left Linklaters' Swedish arm in recent times include local technology, media and telecoms head Joergen Axellson, who quit to join top Swedish independent Setterwells, and IT partner Peter Nordbeck, who joined Delphi & Co.
