Wragge & Co has hired senior lawyer Jane Kola to beef up its City arm in a rare departure from top pensions boutique Sacker & Partners.

Kola becomes the first partner to quit Sackers – the UK's largest dedicated pensions firm – for a rival firm since 1996.

She joins Wragges' London arm in August as a director in the Birmingham giant's 32-lawyer national pensions practice, which counts Emap and Rolls-Royce among its clients.

Specialising in non-contentious pensions work, including investment agreements, outsourcing deals and hedge funds, Kola also headed Sackers' dedicated 'schemes in transition' unit, which advises clients on changing their pension schemes.

Kola's hire coincides with the promotion of Paul Feathers to partner in Wragges' London pensions team.

Commenting on the hire, Wragges national pensions head Glyn Ryland said: "Kola is a high-calibre lawyer who has a strong track record of creating good, long-term client relationships."
