Clifford Chance (CC) is to pull the plug on its Padua outpost in the northeast of Italy, with a number of the team set to relocate to its office in Milan.

The closure is due to take place by the end of July. The seven-lawyer Padua team will be offered the chance to relocate to the City giant's Milan branch, which currently numbers around 120 lawyers and is headed by local managing partner Charles Adams. It is not yet known whether the entire team will make the switch.

Corporate and commercial partner Gianandrea Rizzieri, who had previously overseen the Padua practice, has already made the move to Milan after dividing his time between the two offices for more than a year.

It is understood that Padua-based clients such as insurance giant Generali Assicurazioni and banking group Antoveneta had already been receiving advice from the Milan office.

The closure will leave CC with just two offices in Italy, with the magic circle firm's presence in Rome and Milan expected to grow over the coming months.
