Outer Temple Chambers has appointed a new commercial director in a continuing shake-up of its practice management, having lured a senior administrator from Doughty Street Chambers.

Christine Kings, who was chief executive officer at Doughty Street, joins Outer Temple next week (2 July) in the newly-created role as the set looks to implement a strategy of growth.

The move comes after Outer Temple called in management consultants The Strategy House last year to draw up a five-year plan, which recommended splitting the operational running of the practice and responsibility for its strategy.

Following the report, former senior clerk Derek Jenkins was promoted to the new role of business development director earlier this year, with Kings now set to take on responsibility for issues including finance, technology and human resources.

Kings is replaced as chief executive at Doughty Street, where she had worked for the last 17 years, by Ann Conway-Hughes.

The move marks a rare switch for senior administrators between barristers' chambers. Last year Seven Bedford Row chief executive Robert Graham-Campbell quit the common law set to join Maitland Chambers after Maitland senior clerk Andy Flanagan switched to Crown Office Chambers.
