White & Case has expanded its London capital markets practice with the hire of Baker & McKenzie partner Carter Brod.

Brod, who is both US and English-qualified, focuses particularly on emerging markets offerings, advising both issuers and underwriters. His start date is yet to be confirmed.

The move continues a concerted effort by White & Case to bolster its capital markets practice, with the appointment of Brod the third partner-level hire for its City capital markets team in as many months. In May equity capital markets partners Andrew Croxford and Andrew Caunt joined the firm from US rival McDermott Will & Emery.

White & Case also recently moved US-qualified securities partner Sven Krogius to London from Moscow and earlier this year strengthened its Frankfurt team with the hire of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer capital markets partner Lutz Robert Kraemer.

Commenting on the latest hire, London capital markets partner Tim Jeveons said: "We are seeing increasing activity in both the debt and equity capital markets across all emerging market jurisdictions. As a result, we are expanding our emerging markets resources at the partner level in order to meet time-critical demands of our clients."

The firm's recent emerging capital markets work includes advising Indian real estate company DLF on its $2.25 bn (£1.12bn) initial public offering on the National Stock Exchange of India and the Bombay Stock Exchange, as well as advising Merrill Lynch International and Hoare Govett as joint sponsors on the move by Russian energy group Imperial Energy Corporation from the Alternative Investment Market to London's main exchange.

Last month the firm also boosted its leveraged finance capabilities with a trio of hires, including the appointment of Allen & Overy counsel Clare Calver as a partner. Calver is currently based in London but will relocate to Paris in the coming months.
