Ex-Fujitsu lawyer Jean Hughes has been named as eBay's UK director of legal and public affairs.

Hughes will now head up the online auction company's seven-lawyer UK legal team, and will be reporting to eBay UK managing director Doug McCallam and eBay's international head of legal, Mark von Samson-Himmelsterner.

EBay's former UK head of legal, Robert Miller, left the company in February last year to join Skype as its global general counsel. Paul Drake, who has acted as an interim head since Miller's departure, has been promoted to head of contracts and commercial.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has named commercial lawyer Dervish Tayyip as its new UK head of legal, replacing former incumbent Chris Parker.

Tayyip will report to Parker, who has taken on the role of senior director, law and corporate affairs.

Formerly a partner at City firm Reid Minty, Tayyip joined Microsoft in 1999 where he supported the computer giant's largest licensing and services transactions in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
