Walker Morris has advised on a £235m property deal in Hull, advising the City's council on improvements to local housing. The Leeds-based law firm worked alongside the Hull City Council in-house legal team on the project to improve 29,000 homes to a standard set out in a new initiative by the Government, dubbed 'Decent Homes'.

The council awarded the work on the houses to three contractors – Kier Support Services, Connaught Partnership and Kingstown Works, which was formerly a branch of the council. Six hundred council workers have been transferred to the contractors as part of the process.

Walker Morris advised on the creation of Kingstown and on drafting bespoke contracts to deal with the Decent Homes work and the refurbishment and maintenance of the houses.

The Walker Morris team was led by commercial partner Mark Sanderson and associate Elizabeth Wood. Wood commented: "These contracts represent a great opportunity for the Council and the residents of Hull."
