SJ Berwin has bagged a plum role advising on the formation of a €2bn (£1.36m) fund by RREEF Infrastructure, the first such fund-raising made by the client in Europe.

SJ Berwin funds partner Josyane Gold took the lead for RREEF – the alternative investments business of Deutsche Bank's asset management division – as it closes its Pan-European Infrastructure Fund.

The advisory team for SJ Berwin also included Munich-based funds partner Anthony Tulloch, along with London associates Bridget Quirke, Simon Meagher and Tim Dolan.

The fund initially aimed to raise €800m (£544m) before being extended and will invest in assets in the transport, utilities, and social infrastructure sectors in continental Europe and the UK.

Gold commented: "The market for infrastructure funds continues to expand and we are delighted to advise RREEF on its first, extremely successful European fund."

In the past RREEF has turned to advisers including Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, which acted for the group on its €1.2bn (£807m) acquisition of German motorway services operator Autobahn Tank & Rast from Terra Firma.

Linklaters has also seen action for the client, advising it on its 2006 acquisition of a 49.9% stake in Peel Ports for £800m.
