Field Fisher Waterhouse has advised Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov on his purchase of a stake in Arsenal Football Club.
The mid-tier City law firm advised investment company Red & White Holdings, which is jointly owned by Usmanov and London-based investor Farhad Moshiri, on its £75m acquisition of a 14.6% stake in the club from former vice-chairman David Dein.
The acquisition makes Red & White the third-largest shareholder in Arsenal, with the company keen to increase its stake in the Premier League club.
Field Fisher corporate partner Alex Woodfield led a team including fellow corporate partners Neil Foster, David Wilkinson and Antony Brockbank.
Usmanov and Moshiri are both longstanding clients of Field Fisher. Woodfield advised Usmanov on his investment in Corus Group several years ago and represented Moshiri on his purchase of a 9.9% stake in stockbroker Panmure Gordon earlier this year.
Travers Smith corporate associate Anthony Foster advised Dein, who joins Red & White as chairman, on the sale of his stake. Woodfield said: "Arsenal is a great opportunity for the Red & White team and we look forward to working with them as they manage this investment."
