CORPORATE
Osborne Clarke has advised the shareholders of construction firm Cowlin Group on its £52m sale to Balfour Beatty. The team was led by corporate partner Paul Cooper. Balfour Beatty was advised by Linklaters.
Addleshaw Goddard corporate partner Yunus Seedat (pictured) has advised Costcutter management on the sale of a 31% equity stake to Bibby Line Group. In a related move, Bibby Line also acquired a 20% stake from Icelandic bank Kaupthing. Manchester-based Halliwells corporate partner Paul Jefferson advised Bibby Line. Olswang corporate partner Stephen Rosen acted for Kaupthing.
Wragge & Co and Clifford Chance (CC) have advised real estate adviser DTZ on its acquisition of property consultancy Donaldsons. The deal is worth an initial £39.8m plus a deferred consideration of up to £8.8m. Wragges Birmingham property partner Lee McBride took the lead advising DTZ on the deal's real estate aspects, while CC partner Roger Moore was instructed on corporate issues. Addleshaw Goddard corporate partner Stephen Houston (pictured) acted for Donaldsons.
PROPERTY
Norton Rose public-private partnership partners Martin McCann and Madhavi Gosavi have advised Taylor Woodrow-led consortium Paradigm on its partnership with Sheffield City Council on the £320m Building Schools for the Future project. Pinsent Masons construction partner Mike Mullarkey advised Taylor Woodrow Construction. Addleshaw Goddard advised the council.
Cobbetts property partner Adrian Watson has advised Barberry developments on the £23m sale of its redeveloped office site b1 to British Airways Pension Trustees. Forsters associate Magnus Hassett advised the pension trustees.
COMMERCIAL
Dickinson Dees has advised Barclays Bank on a £30m investment in primary care trust (PCT) facilities in Bury, Manchester. The local improvement finance trust (LIFT) scheme sees projects partner Russell Jarvis (pictured) lead for the Newcastle firm. Addleshaw Goddard acted for the PCT and Hammonds advised the special purpose vehicle.
Wragge & Co has advised Walsall College on its new £60m campus under construction partner Richard Green. Land was acquired from Tesco and Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council. Berwin Leighton Paisner advised Tesco, while Cobbetts acted for Walsall MBC. Advantage West Midlands, advised by Hammonds, supplied funding for part of the deal.
FINANCE
Travers Smith private equity partner Edmund Reed advised Phoenix Private Equity Partners on its investment in sports clothing specialist Musto in a deal valuing the company at £40m. Eversheds corporate partner William Sharpe advised the selling shareholders and re-investing management.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
