Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom and Jones Day have advised on the $1.4bn (£685m) acquisition of Airtricity North America by E.ON.

Skadden advised regular client Airtricity on the sale of its US wind farm operations after being instructed in the first half of the year. The firm's dual-qualified European energy and project finance head Douglas Nordlinger led the team assisted by London finance partner James Healy.

Jones Day New York energy partner Thomas Havens led the team for E.ON as the deal was largely conducted under US law.

The deal is the second significant acquisition in the renewables sector that Skadden has advised on in recent months. It also advised on July's $2.9bn (£1.4bn) acquisition by Energias de Portugal of Horizon Wind Energy from Goldman Sachs.

Nordlinger said: "This deal shows the continued interest in the renewables sector. It is attracting large-scale investments and this demonstrates the continued penetration of the US market by major European companies."

Airtricity – an Irish wind farm operator – also used Irish firm Lavery Kirby Gilmartin for legal advice.
