M&A
Ashurst has advised Alinda Infrastructure Fund on its £400m acquisition of UK-based water utility group South Staffordshire from Bahrain investment firm Arcapita Bank. Private equity partner Gavin Gordon (pictured) led the team for Ashurst. Linklaters corporate partner Matthew Middleditch advised Arcapita, with Hammonds corporate partner Amanda Allen representing South Staffordshire management.
Norton Rose acted for easyJet on its proposed £103.5m acquisition of British Airways franchise partner GB Airways from travel and leisure company Bland Group. Corporate finance partner Chris Randall led the Norton Rose deal team while Stephenson Harwood Paris chief Richard Pearson acted for Bland Group and GB Airways.
Travers Smith corporate partner Edmund Reed has advised Phoenix Equity Partners on its acquisition of a stake in organic home delivery supplier Abel & Cole for an undisclosed sum. Lovells corporate partner Tom Whelan led for Abel & Cole, while the ongoing management was represented by Browne Jacobson corporate partner Nigel Blackwell.
Shearman & Sterling is advising Merrill Lynch and UBS Investment Bank in their twin roles as joint financial advisers to Standard Life on its £4.9bn offer for Resolution and the associated disposal of certain Resolution assets to Swiss Reinsurance Company. Shearman London-based M&A partner Laurence Levy led the team for Merrill Lynch and UBS. Clifford Chance corporate finance partner Adam Signy is representing Standard Life, while Herbert Smith corporate partner Malcolm Lombers is acting for Resolution. Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom is advising Swiss Reinsurance.
ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENT MARKET (AIM)
Osborne Clarke (OC) advised independent television production company Boomerang on its £14m initial public offering on AIM. OC corporate finance head Jonathan King took the headline role for Boomerang while Dechert London corporate partner David Vogel led a team advising the nominated adviser and broker, Evolution Securities.
REAL ESTATE
Nabarro has advised Hammerson UK Properties on a £675m mixed-use redevelopment scheme in Leeds city centre. Nabarro planning chief Martin Evans is leading the team acting for Hammerson, while DLA Piper head of real estate Neil Mclean is advising the UK construction company's joint venture partner, Town Centre Securities.
COMMERCIAL
SJ Berwin has advised PD Ports in securing planning permission from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council for its upcoming £300m Northern Gateway Container Terminal at Teesport. Planning partner Duncan Field (pictured right) led the team for SJ Berwin. London practice Rees & Freres advised on the parliamentary orders, while the council used its in-house legal team.
