The Bar Council has announced the results of its 2008 elections, with the results set to highlight concerns over a lack of representation from the employed Bar.

BMI Healthcare general counsel Stephen Collier was the only applicant from the employed Bar to put his name forward and automatically becomes the representative for barristers in industry of more than seven years' call.

The post representing employed barristers of less than seven years' call remains unfilled after no applications were received for the role.

The results come after former Court of Appeal judge Sir Paul Kennedy in May called for employed and junior barristers to be given a greater role in the running of the regulatory body.

A total of 31 candidates put themselves forward in the self-employed categories, with 15 posts up for grabs.

Silks David Etherington (18 Red Lion Court), Sir Ivan Lawrence (Clarendon Chambers) and Kin Hollis of 25 Bedford Row were all elected into the self-employed category for QCs and barristers of more than seven years' call.

Meanwhile, Doughty Street's Paul Bogan and Taryn Lee of 37 Park Square were among those to get the nod in the category for self-employed barristers of less than seven years' call.

The results were announced earlier this month (23 November) and hand each successful candidate a three-year term, beginning on 1 January, 2008. In last year's elections the Bar Council received a total of 36 applications, with 18 posts subsequently being filled.
