High-profile former Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer restructuring and insolvency head Sandy Shandro is set to join 3 Verulam Buildings, it was announced today (6 December).

Shandro, who left the magic circle giant in February, will join the leading commercial set as a door tenant and will aim to help develop its insolvency and restructuring expertise.

Alongside his tenancy, Shandro will continue in his five-year role as dean of the University College of London (UCL) Faculty of Law, which he took up in September following his departure from Freshfields, where he had been a principle consultant.

UCL currently has eight deans, whose principal roles are advising on academic strategy and management issues at faculty level.

Shandro has worked on a number of major insolvencies, including advising the Eurotunnel Group in connection with its epic restructuring. He also advised a number of financial institutions and corporates in relation to the insolvency of Italian dairy giant Parmalat and was previously chairman of the Insolvency Law Committee of the City of London Law Society.

Shandro commented: "During my time at Freshfields I worked closely with members of 3VB on a number of projects and we developed an excellent working relationship. [The set] has a great deal of restructuring and insolvency experience and expertise and I am delighted to have been asked to contribute to the development of their practice in this increasingly important area."
